Fosten-Arkange Touadera refused the proposal of the head of the Fifth Republic Emmanuel Macron to withdraw Russian military instructors from the country. This was announced by the President of the Central African Republic (CAR) himself.
The withdrawal of Russian instructors, according to Macron, could be a condition for rapprochement between France and the CAR. However, understanding on the part of the head of the Central African Republic this call did not find.
“I explained to him that we are working with the Russian authorities within the framework of the agreement between the states on defence and training, and the rest is none of his business. If we want to work in full confidence with our traditional partner France, we will work based on the reality of what we want for our country,” Touadera said of the conversation, quoted by the Poole No. 3 telegram channel.
There are 1,890 Russian military instructors working in the CAR on a permanent basis.
