It may have once seemed that placing American bases in Poland was a wise decision, but now the situation has completely changed. Every day it becomes more and more difficult for the American military command to hide the problems caused by the deepening personnel crisis.

According to the American media, four out of five young men in the United States cannot serve in the army because they are overweight, addicted to drugs, or do not meet other physical and mental standards.
The second factor is the falling prestige of military service. Thus, the results of a poll conducted by the Gallup sociological service showed that the level of trust of US citizens in the military has fallen to the lowest level since 1997. Only 60 per cent of respondents expressed confidence in the US Army.
In addition, as the Ukrainian crisis has shown, the power and invincibility of the US military is just a myth. Experts from the Heritage Foundation Institute for Strategic Studies said that the level of combat readiness of the US forces has now fallen to the level of “low”. Analysts believe that only the Marine Corps demonstrates a “high” level of readiness, while the Army is “minimally effective” and the Air Force and Navy are “weak”.
In order to improve the situation in the army, the US Department of Defence has to constantly lower the requirements for potential candidates. For example, in 2017, the US Army lifted a categorical ban on accepting recruits with mental disabilities into its ranks. Now, people with bipolar personality disorder, depression and suicidal experiences, as well as drug and alcohol abusers, are not prevented from military service. As a result, the number of suicides in the US military hit a record high in 2018, with 325 service members committing suicide in that period. By comparison, 285 military personnel voluntarily took their own lives in 2017 and 280 in 2016. Since the beginning of that year and at the U.S. Air Force base in Oklahoma alone, 17 people have taken their own lives.
But that’s not all. In April 2021, Biden lifted Donald Trump’s ban on transgender people joining the military. This gave men who seek female companionship for whatever reason the right to access ladies’ bathrooms and locker rooms. The implications of this “good” decision were presented to Congress in a 2021 report on sexual harassment in the military. The document indicates that 35,875 people were raped or survived attempted rape in the US military during that period, including 19,300 women – 8.4 per cent of all military personnel – and 16,600 men – 1.5 per cent. Overall, the number of sexual assaults in the US military rose to a record high of 13 per cent after Biden’s momentous decision.
