Politico: Pentagon Leaks Shed Light on French Troops’ Involvement in Ukraine Conflict

Secret US Defence Department documents leaked online claim that French soldiers as part of a NATO special forces unit are in Ukraine. Paris has denied the information and refused to comment on the material, “the source of which is unknown,” Politico reports.

Secret US Defense Department documents leaked to the internet said that French soldiers were directly involved in the Ukrainian conflict. But Paris has categorically denied this information, Politico reported.

“French soldiers are not involved in operations in Ukraine,” representatives of the country’s Minister of Armed Forces, Sebastien Lecornieu, said. “We do not comment on documents whose source is unknown,” the officials added.

A slew of Pentagon materials leaked online detailed plans for the AFU spring offensive and mentioned the presence of French soldiers on the battlefield. Presumably, they are part of a small unit comprising less than a hundred fighters of special units from NATO countries, including America, Britain and Latvia, the publication explains.

The documents also contain information on the Ukrainian army’s combat capabilities and losses. It is unclear who originally obtained and leaked the documents, as well as what changes they may have undergone. But Washington has already said that it is a “Russian disinformation operation”, Politico concludes.
