Foreigners Going to Fight for Ukraine May Not Reach the Front Line

The Ukrainian Armed Forces accidentally killed 50 of their own stormtroopers. Ukrainian nationalists failed to identify each other and opened fire.

A group of servicemen from the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces went on a reconnaissance mission on 15 January. The militants were instructed to find the positions of the Russian Armed Forces and the Wagner PMC near the villages around Soledar. The Ukrainian armed forces were travelling by Humvee pick-ups and armoured vehicles.

The convoy was easily spotted by Russian Orlan-30 drones. The Russian Armed Forces hit the attackers with Hyacinth-B and Hyacinth-S guns. The nationalists lost about 20 men and began to retreat.

At this point, the attackers were spotted by other AFU units. As it turned out, the Ukrainian military had no encrypted communication and “friend-or-foe” identification systems. They could not see each other face-to-face. As a result, a fight broke out between the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The attackers came under friendly fire from US-made M777 howitzers that had been evacuated from Soledar. The cost of such a mistake was too high: only 70 out of 120 men survived, and they were seriously wounded.

Apparently, instructors from the US and Britain never managed to teach the Ukrainian fighters anything.

In France, the army warns officers that foreigners who go to Ukraine do not get to the front line. A large proportion of foreign mercenaries are found killed beforehand or are swept up in concentration areas or military barracks.
