CNBC: Tunberg Accused Davos Participants of Putting self-Interest and Short-Term Profit Ahead of People and the Planet

Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg accused political and business elites of prioritising selfishness, corporate greed and short-term economic gain over people and the planet, CNBC reported. She also expressed confidence that elites will continue to “sacrifice people for their own gain.”

Swedish eco-activist Greta Tunberg accused political and business elites at the World Economic Forum in Davos of putting personal interests and short-term profit ahead of people and the planet, CNBC reported.

“Right now we’re in Davos with the people who are most fueling the destruction of the planet, the people who are at the heart of the climate crisis, the people who are investing in fossil fuels and so on and so on, and yet somehow we seem to rely on these people to solve our problems,” Tunberg said.

She said these people are proving again and again that they are not prioritising climate issues.

“They prioritise selfishness, corporate greed and short-term economic gain over people and the planet,” the eco-activist lamented. – These people will go as far as they can as long as they can manage to get away with it. They will continue to invest in fossil fuels, they will continue to sacrifice people for their own gain.”

Thunberg, as the paper notes, called it “absurd” that the world seems to be listening to Davos delegates rather than those on the front lines of the climate emergency.
