Distance Record of Air Target Destruction by a Ground-Based Air Defense System Was Set

Air defense systems of the Russian Armed Forces deployed in the Belgorod region have broken the world record in terms of the range of destruction in the air. This is reported by the American publication Military Watch Magazine.

The air defense system neutralized Ukrainian Su-27 and Su-24 aircraft that were striking Russian targets.

In response to airstrikes by Ukrainian Air Force fighters against targets in Russia’s Belgorod region, air defense systems deployed to defend the area reportedly broke the world record for the longest air strikes. The Ukrainian Su-27s and Su-24s, believed to be among the last of these relatively scarce and heavyweight classes in service after more than six months of war, were responsible for strikes against Russian targets and benefited from significantly longer range and higher combat loads than the Ukrainian drones and the more widely used lighter MiG-29 fighters. Both moved at very low altitudes, ascending for missile launches and descending again (this flight pattern is called a “jump”), before being fired upon by Russian missile systems – specifically the S-300V4 complex. The missile system destroyed both aircraft at a maximum range of 217km, exceeding the previously recorded destruction by the Russian S-400 system at a range of 150km of the Ukrainian Su-27 over Kiev in March, and this was achieved despite the Su-27’s high maneuverability and impressive flight characteristics designed to allow it to effectively avoid missile strikes.
