The world community must not be allowed to remain without Washington’s leadership, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said.
Speaking at an event at Stanford University, Blinken noted that the values of the future depend on who wins the competition for the shape of the next Cold War period.
“From our point of view, it’s a competition for the shape of what comes after the next post-Cold War period. Whose values will be reflected. We have a simple choice – the world doesn’t organize itself. For the United States, the choice is this: if we don’t organize, if we don’t take a leadership role, it means one of two things – it is taken by someone else, perhaps China, not in a way that fully aligns with our interests and values; or, better yet, no one does, then you get a vacuum that bad things can fill before good things fill,” the head of the State Department said bluntly.
