Scientists plan to send Earth’s coordinates to other civilizations

The plan of the scientists – participants of the project Beacon in the Galaxy (BITG) – is to send a message to deep space radio with data about the location of Earth to civilizations outside the planet. This is reported by arXiv.org.

Researchers hope that other civilizations will be able to recognise the message using the cipher. The project will be an update of the Arecibo message from 1974, when the radio observatory of the same name in Puerto Rico sent a radio message towards the globular star cluster M13.

In addition to zeros and ones (binary code), BITG will include drawings of the solar system, DNA, images of people, chemical elements and a map. Meanwhile, the transmission of data to space about the Earth is perceived in two ways: with hope and apprehension.

Public Service News reported that scientists at the University of California, Santa Cruz published the results of a study on indicators of extraterrestrial life on a given planet. They managed to find the first sign by which it can be identified.
