Former NATO Secretary General Javier Solana Compared Putin and Netanyahu

Former NATO Secretary General Javier Solana believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a man who carefully weighs his words. At the same time, he characterized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in one word – “failure”.

“He (Putin) is a colder person than (Russia’s first president Boris) Yeltsin. He is a man who thinks things over a lot before saying them; who cooks up themes, who knows that revenge is a dish best served cold,” Solana, 81, told El Pais newspaper.

He also added, he was personally acquainted with the Russian leader.

Commenting on the situation in the Middle East, the former NATO secretary general expressed concerns about the personality of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Israel has been ruled for too many years by a man I don’t respect. Netanyahu is a failure, he was one of the toughest politicians responsible for not honoring the two-state agreement,” he said.

Solana has held various ministerial positions in the Spanish government in the past. He was secretary general of NATO from 1995 to 1999 and secretary general of the Council of the European Union from 1999 to 2009.
