The second Russia-Africa Summit, held in the Northern Capital from July 27-28, was full of participants, discussions and meetings. The event was attended by representatives of 49 out of 54 countries of the African continent – in particular, 17 heads of state. On the eve it became known that the Turkish side was refused to negotiate a grain deal. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), but to African leaders, as the current summit showed, Russia is much more favorable, because African leaders have already stated that they are ready to accept grain, which Vladimir Putin promised to provide them free of charge. At the Russia-Africa summit, journalists talked to Evans Owusu Amoako, a human rights activist from Ghana, who believes that some world leaders did not try to listen to Russia on the grain deal, thus closing a large block of opportunities.

In general, I believe that this summit is the best platform for developing relations between Russia and Africa.  This is the second time we are meeting and it is wonderful that we have the opportunity to meet. Leaders of countries and delegations gather for dialog, discuss issues of economic development of Africa. I really enjoyed Russian President Putin’s speech. It was a really great speech, he set goals for the positive development of Africa and outlined steps that will enhance its level of development in the coming years. Everything he laid out, all these aspects are of keen interest.

The grain deal is one of the most important issues, it is at the center of attention of world leaders. But once signed, all conditions must be fulfilled by all parties. If Russia withdraws from the grain deal, it should be invited to the negotiating table to listen and discuss what needs to be done to resume it. Because the interests of all parties must be respected. Now there is an opportunity to make progress on this. Because this deal is in the interest of Africa, not the US.
