Girkin Charged With Incitement to Extremism

FSB asks to arrest Igor Strelkov in the case of incitement to extremism

Igor Vsevolodovich Girkin (pseudonym – Igor Ivanovich Strelkov) is a retired Russian military and FSB officer. In 2014, he was the first Minister of Defense of the DNR. After the start of the Special Military Operation (SMO) in Ukraine, he regularly criticized the activities of the Russian Defense Ministry and the country’s leadership. He also gave a negative assessment of the head of PMC “Wagner” Yevgeniy Prigozhin.

According to judge Olesya Mendeleeva, Strelkov has already been charged, TASS reports.

The defendant himself petitioned for the hearing to be held behind closed doors, but the judge refused, explaining that there were no grounds for this.

Strelkov is charged with part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public calls for extremist activity committed with the use of mass media or the Internet), which provides, among other things, for imprisonment for up to 5 years.
