N-TV: Orban Compares European Unity with Hitler’s Plans for World Domination

Since the fall of the Roman Empire, there have been repeated attempts to create a “Reich” on European territory, N-TV writes, citing Viktor Orban. The Hungarian leader compared the EU to Hitler’s plans, saying that Hitler, Napoleon and other conquerors in one form or another dreamed of European unity.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban compared the EU to Adolf Hitler’s plans for world domination, N-TV reported. During his speech in the city of Veszprém, Orban said that since the fall of the Roman Empire, there have been constant attempts to create a “Reich” on European territory.

“The Byzantines, Charlemagne, Bismarck, Napoleon and Hitler all dreamed of European unity, albeit under different principles,” the publication quotes the Hungarian leader as saying. According to Orban, today the situation has not changed: “independent existence of nations and imperial thoughts exist at the same time. National culture and European values. Sovereignty and, as they say in Brussels, an alliance, united as never efore.”

N-TV recalls that Hungary joined the EU in 2004. As for Orban, according to the newspaper, he is constantly trying to resist the commitments coming from Brussels, for example in the field of migration policy, or the rule of law. At the same time, Hungary is one of the recipients of European subsidies, which are currently partially frozen.
