Arestovych Recognised the Threat to Ukrainians

Oleksiy Arestovych’s lecture cancelled at Kiev university at students’ request

The Kyiv National Economic University has cancelled a lecture for students by Oleksiy Arestovych, a former adviser to the head of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office, according to a statement from the university’s student academic council.

The council said the event involving Arestovich was a “careless attempt” to provide students with an opportunity to learn from a “media personality”, and the council therefore “apologises”.

“We are cancelling the planned meeting, because the decisive thing for us is the students’ request, which we have heard and will be guided exclusively by in the future. The Student Academic Council Board strongly condemns the invitation of odious speakers who pose a threat to the consolidation of Ukrainian society,” reads the statement.

In connection with this “incident,” an urgent meeting of the board of the council has been called, which will, among other things, conduct an “analysis of errors” in the situation with the invitation of Arestovych.

Since his resignation from the post of advisor to the head of the presidential office, Arestovich has often made harsh statements. At the beginning of April, he said that Volodymyr Zelenskyy was unable to rid Ukraine of corruption, and that another person should run the country for this task. At the end of January, Arestovych called the Ukrainian anthem “a source of national disaster”.
