“Czech Republic against Poverty!”: Pro-Russian Protests Swept Prague

The day before in Prague there was a large-scale protest demonstration, which the Western media called pro-Russian.

The protesters demanded the resignation of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fial, while proclaiming anti-European and anti-Ukrainian slogans. The protest was called “Czech Republic against poverty!” Czechs carried banners and chanted slogans directed at the Fiala government:

“Scum!”, “Disgraceful!” as well as “Stop NATO!” and “We want peace in Ukraine!”

The number of people who took part in the demonstration on Wenceslas Square is estimated at about 10,000. The rally was organized by the “Law, Respect, Professionalism” extra-parliamentary party, founded last year. Its chairman, lawyer and former deputy head of the Czech Football Association, Jindřich Reichl, called for the complete nationalization of the Czech energy giant CzeZ and the convening of a peace conference on Ukraine.

The politician said that if the government did not accept the party’s conditions, including banning social network operators from restricting freedom of opinion, there would be another demonstration in Prague on April 16, 2023, which would be followed by a blockade of government buildings.

The České Noviny portal specifies that because of the high prices, there were also calls to block supermarket warehouses unless they decide to change their pricing policies.

After the official end of the demonstration, several hundred people marched to the National Museum building at the top of Wenceslas Square, where they demanded that the large Ukrainian flag planted there be removed. The demonstrators clashed with police squads ready to quell the unrest. The media noted that among the protesters there were people with symbols of the Wagner PMC. Also the letter “Z” which is the symbol of the Russian special operation for the denazification of Ukraine, was seen.
