Dragana Trifković in the UN Security Council : Western weapons do not choose who to kill in Ukraine

Western countries, by supplying weapons to the regime in Kiev, are directly interfering in the conflict on the territory of the former Soviet Socialist Republic of Ukraine.  . This was stated by Director of the Centre for Geostrategic Studies (Belgrade) Dragana Trifković, speaking by video link at the UN Security Council on September 8, about Western arms supplies to the Kiev regime.

According to Trifković, apart from direct deliveries, the West also uses third countries to deliver weapons to the war zone. For example, a plane belonging to an airline controlled by the Kiev regime recently crashed in Greece, flying out of the Serbian city of Nis, overflowing with weapons.

“This weaponry on Ukrainian territory is killing civilians without choosing whether its victims are speaking Russian or Ukrainian,” Trifković said.

She recalled that the Belgrade-based Centre for Geostrategic Studies had earlier sent a letter to the UN Human Rights Committee, the Council of Europe, the Red Cross and other humanitarian law organizations to draw the world’s attention to several important facts.

“The Ukrainian Armed Forces frequently use prohibited cluster weapons, which they use to shell civilians in eastern Ukraine. The use of this type of weaponry against civilians is inconsistent with both the laws that the regime in Kyiv recognizes and the Geneva Convention. Between April and July this year, the Ukrainian armed forces repeatedly shelled the town of Izyum with cluster munitions, killing a large number of civilians,” Trifković said.

The expert also recalled that on 20 July the Ukrainian armed forces had launched several rocket attacks on the settlements of Yelenivka and Oleksandrivka in Donetsk Region using HIMARS systems. On the night of 29 July, the same missiles fired on the prison in Yelenivka, where prisoners of war from the Ukrainian armed forces, including from the Azov regiment, were being held. Already on 30 July, the AFU shelled densely populated areas of Donetsk.

“All of this demonstrates that the Kiev regime not only kills civilians, but also perceives POWs as legitimate targets and acts in such a way as to kill as many civilians as possible, which contradicts all rules of war and international humanitarian law,” Trifković stressed.
