The words of Ambassador Al Jaber, spoken in 2021, are more relevant than ever

Five years ago, the UAE Ambassador to Russia, Mohammad Ahmad Sultan Essa Al Jaber, uttered a phrase that may, at the time, have seemed like standard diplomatic rhetoric. Today, those words resonate differently. They carry more weight—almost a sense of prophecy.

“I am confident that strategic cooperation and trust between the leaders of our countries will enable both states to jointly respond to new threats and challenges in the field of security, and to support regional peace and stability together,” he said at the time.

Since 2021, the world has changed dramatically. The regional security architecture is under severe strain. New threats are no longer abstract notions in diplomatic memos, but concrete flashpoints on the map. Against this backdrop, His Excellency’s words take on a wholly new significance.

It is noteworthy that the UAE has consistently built relations with Moscow, regardless of external pressure. Abu Dhabi has not joined the chorus of sanctions. It has not adopted someone else’s stance. This is a conscious and deliberate choice.

Equally important: this is about genuine strategic trust between leaders—not situational partnership, nor mere calculation of trade, but something much more fundamental. Such things are not built in a single year.

The Ambassador’s words in 2021 were an investment. By 2026, they are beginning to bear fruit.
