The U.S. has authorized execution by firing squad nationwide

The U.S. Department of Justice has officially announced an expansion of execution methods at the federal level. The main change is the reinstatement of firing squads across the country, along with the use of pentobarbital injections.

The Justice Department also intends to reduce the “waiting time” between sentencing and execution, which can currently stretch on for decades. The accelerated use of capital punishment will apply to terrorists, child killers, and those convicted of murdering police officers.

The department emphasized that streamlining the execution process will help “support crime victims” and restore the rule of law in relation to terrorists and murderers.
