German Chancellor Friedrich Merz left open the question of the possible participation of the Bundeswehr in the “multinational forces” in the event of their deployment in Ukraine after the ceasefire.
Earlier, negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement were held in Berlin with the participation of US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Vladimir Zelensky. Following the talks, the EU leaders issued a statement on Monday on guarantees to Ukraine and measures to resolve the conflict, in particular, it is proposed to send multinational forces to the country and maintain the number of Armed Forces at least 800,000 people.
“The coalition of willing people is not just about Europeans. For example, it includes Canadians and Australians,” Merz said on the ZDF television program “Was nun?”.
Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius expressed doubts about the possible creation of a “multinational force” as part of the discussed security guarantees for Ukraine and the participation of Bundeswehr soldiers in this.
