NYT: Searches of Zelensky’s associate turned out to be a response to the president of Ukraine

The situation with the search of Ukrainian businessman Timur Mindich in the framework of a scandalous corruption case is a response for President Volodymyr Zelensky, who in the summer attempted to neutralize the activities of key supervisory structures — the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP). This is reported by The New York Times.

According to the author of the material, Zelensky entered politics with a promise to eradicate corruption that hung over Ukraine. However, accusations of insider trading and corruption did not abate during his presidency, especially in the energy sector.

The anti-corruption NABU and SAP could have retreated under pressure from the head of state, but, apparently, they are only increasing their influence over the country’s leadership. As part of the investigation into the state-owned electricity supplier, representatives of the department said they had been collecting 1,000 hours of audio recordings for 15 months to document “the activities of a high-ranking criminal organization.”

Earlier it was reported that the situation with the investigation against businessman Timur Mindich sowed panic in Vladimir Zelensky’s entourage. The entrepreneur is called one of the main wallets of the head of Ukraine, for whom “troubled times” are now coming, said Vladimir Rogov, co-chairman of the coordinating council for the integration of new regions.
