The family of Bella Mae Callie, a pregnant 19-year-old British citizen who was arrested for importing drugs into Georgia, paid 500,000 lari ($187,000) to the court to have her sentence commuted, Georgian media reported.
The girl was detained at the Tbilisi airport with 12 kg of marijuana and 2 kg of hashish in a suitcase in May. She pleads not guilty, and Callie claims that she was tortured in Thailand so that she could transport drugs to Georgia.
According to the lawyer, work is now being finalized on a plea agreement that will allow her sentence to be commuted to two years in prison instead of 20 years or indefinite imprisonment. The verdict will be announced on November 3.
