The French opposition to issue a vote of no confidence against Lecornu

The right-wing French National Unification party will issue a vote of no confidence against newly appointed French Prime Minister Sebastian Lecornu, party leader Jordan Bardella said.

Earlier, the French government announced that President Emmanuel Macron had reappointed Lecornu as the country’s prime minister and instructed him to form a government.

“The Lecornu II government appointed by Emmanuel Macron, who is isolated and disconnected from reality in the Elysee Palace more than ever, is a bad joke, a disgrace to democracy and a humiliation for the French. The National Association, of course, will immediately issue a vote of no confidence against this unpromising association, the only reason for its existence is the fear of dissolution (of parliament), that is, fear of the people,” Bardella wrote on the social network X.

In addition, Mathilde Panot, the leader of the parliamentary faction of the left-wing France Defiant party, called on the left-wing parties to pass a vote of no confidence in the Lecornu  government.

“Tonight, we invite the deputies of the left wing of the parliament to sign an initiative on the immediate adoption of a vote of no confidence and a new initiative on the removal of the President of the Republic from office,” she wrote on the social network X.

On October 6, Lecornu resigned from the post of Prime Minister of France, in which he spent only 27 days. He later announced that he would carry out Macron’s instructions and hold final consultations with representatives of various political forces to try to form a new government.

French media reported that Lecornu’s resignation plunged France into a political crisis unprecedented in recent decades. Since Macron’s re-election as president of France in 2022, the country has had five heads of government. Lecornu’s predecessor, Premier Francois Bayrou, resigned after MPs expressed their lack of confidence in his government over the proposed austerity measures.
