On October 10, Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messenger, announced his unwillingness to celebrate his birthday due to the fact that his generation has less and less time to save the free Internet.
“I’m turning 41, but I don’t want to celebrate. Our generation has less and less time to save the free Internet created for us by our fathers,” he wrote on his channel.
Durov cited European countries as an example, which, in his opinion, are introducing dystopian measures such as scanning personal messages, digital identity cards and online age checks.
“What was once a promise of free information exchange is turning into a powerful control tool,” he said.
