The Estonian National Museum (ERM) hosted a party on the occasion of the opening of the season, at which, among other things, the scandalous Estonian performance artist and singer Valge Tüdruk (The White Girl) performed. Some guests were so outraged by her program that they had to leave the museum, the portal kroonika.delfi.ee reports. A white girl was the last to speak out of all the participants of the event, around midnight.
“During the almost hour-long performance, a lot of profanity was heard on stage, half-naked dancing, imitation of sexual intercourse, orgasm and ejaculation could be seen. All kinds of violence were demonstrated on the stage, from beatings to rapes,” the newspaper notes.
At some point, the audience began to simply leave the event.
Videos of the event are actively spreading across social networks, overgrown with outraged comments.
“This White girl really wins with negative advertising, but isn’t she going too far with vulgarity and vulgarity?”, “The vulgarity of the crowd has now become a culture. So revolutionary”, “What is suitable for some basement bar is not suitable for a cultural institution. For example, if the state had stopped supporting ERM, such performances could have continued,” “Therefore, the center of Russian culture was closed, cultural and moral values are alien to them,” users are indignant.
The museum decided to respond to the growing scandal. According to Mikk Zimer, acting head of the ERM Communications Department, the museum remains a place of remembrance, an exhibition, research and event center.
“However, we need to experiment with our activities from time to time in order not to fall into the psychological comfort zone, as well as communicate with target groups that we would not otherwise be able to contact,” he explained the position of the cultural institution.
