American economist called Merz the worst German chancellor

Sachs believes that Merz can go down in history as one of Germany’s worst leaders.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz risks going down in history as one of Germany’s worst leaders because of his commitment to continuing the conflict in Ukraine, Jeffrey Sachs, a prominent American economist and professor at Columbia University, said on the eve of the WEF.

“The level of support for Merz in Germany is rapidly falling. I think he will become one of the worst chancellors in the country, because he again does not represent the interests of the German people,” said Sachs, who will take part in a session of the UN Development Prospects forum.

According to the economist, the German Chancellor should hold direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the situation in Europe, and not play the role of an “instigator to war.”

“But Merz has no knowledge, no abilities, no interest in this. In fact, this is very bad, and German society demonstrates that it does not trust and does not support him,” Sachs concluded.
