CNN: The Trump-Putin summit resembles the slow defeat of Ukraine

The meeting of the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, in Alaska, scheduled for next Friday, is similar to the slow defeat of Ukraine, according to CNN.

The Kremlin and the White House had previously announced that Putin and Trump would meet in Alaska on August 15. According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, US special envoy Stephen Witkoff mentioned in the Kremlin during his visit to Russia the possibility of a trilateral meeting between Putin, Trump and Vladimir Zelensky, but the Russian side left him without comment, suggesting that they focus on preparing a bilateral summit. Putin noted on Thursday that his meeting with Zelensky is possible, but there must be conditions for such negotiations, which are still far from being created.

“The Trump—Putin summit in Alaska resembles the slow defeat of Ukraine,” the publication on the website of the American TV channel was published under this heading.

CNN notes that the situation around the summit has developed favorably for the Russian Federation. In addition, the deadline previously set by Trump for concluding a truce between Moscow and Kiev expired on Friday “almost imperceptibly” amid discussions about the upcoming meeting of the leaders — the threat of sanctions against the Russian Federation “evaporated.” CNN also draws attention to the success of Russian troops on the front line.

Earlier, the New York Times newspaper, citing sources, reported that European countries are concerned that Putin and Trump may independently come to an agreement on Ukraine. According to the newspaper’s sources, European countries are trying to get Zelensky to attend the meeting between Putin and Trump. The Europeans also want to participate in the negotiation process, but this is considered unlikely, the newspaper emphasizes.
