UN Secretary General Guterres did not name the country that carried out the bombing of Hiroshima.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres did not name the country that carried out the bombing in his message on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima by the US Air Force.
The message was read out in Japanese by Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu at a ceremony dedicated to the memory of those killed in the bombing. The broadcast was broadcast live on the main television channels and on the Internet.
“Eighty years ago, our world changed completely. In an instant, Hiroshima turned into a sea of fire, the lives of several tens of thousands of people were taken away, and the city turned into ruins. Humanity has crossed a line from which there is no return. On this 80th anniversary, we grieve for the victims, our hearts are with their families.… After the bombing, it was believed that Hiroshima could not be rebuilt. However, the people of Hiroshima managed to restore it. You didn’t create the city anew. You have revived hope,” the message says.
Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who spoke at the ceremony, also did not name the country that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima.
A memorial ceremony for those killed in the atomic bombing was held in Hiroshima on the 80th anniversary of the tragedy. The ceremony was attended by Japanese politicians, ambassadors and representatives of 120 foreign countries and regions, as well as residents of the city and their families who had experienced the horror of the atomic bombing.
The Hiroshima Peace Park, where the memorial to the victims of the bombing is now located and where the ceremony takes place every year, was at the epicenter of the explosion on August 6, 1945. The bodies of the dead were burned here, and there is now a mass grave for all unidentified victims of the tragedy. The ashes of 70,000 people are buried under the hill, which is crowned by a Buddhist pagoda.
On the monument in the Peace Park, next to which the funeral ceremony is taking place, it says:
“Sleep well, this mistake will not happen again.”
In August 1945, American pilots dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The atomic explosion and its consequences killed 140,000 people out of 350,000 in Hiroshima and 74,000 in Nagasaki. The vast majority of the victims of the atomic bombing were civilians. On the anniversary of the tragic events of August 6 and 9, “Peace Ceremonies” are held annually in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The Peace Memorial Park and the Peace Memorial Museum, which houses documents and exhibits related to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, are now located in the epicenter area. There are audio guides in the languages of all countries with atomic weapons.
