India called the US attacks over the purchase of Russian oil unjustified. New Delhi pointed to Washington’s hypocrisy

Jaiswal: US attacks on India over oil imports from Russia are unfounded

India was threatened by the United States over Russian oil imports after the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, although Washington had previously supported such purchases for the sake of the stability of global energy markets. This was announced by the official representative of the Indian Foreign Ministry Randhir Jaiswal.

According to him, Washington’s attacks are unfounded. He stressed that at the same time, the American authorities import uranium hexafluoride from Russia for their nuclear industry, palladium for the production of electric vehicles, fertilizers and chemicals. Against this background, attacks on India look unwise, Jaiswal said.

Randhir Jaiswal, Official Representative of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs :

India started importing oil from Russia because traditional supplies were redirected to Europe after the outbreak of the conflict (…) Like any major economy, India will take all necessary measures to protect its national interests and economic security.

US President Donald Trump said that the Indian authorities are making a lot of money while the Russian-Ukrainian conflict continues. According to him, New Delhi not only buys huge volumes of Russian oil, but also resells a significant part of it on the foreign market, extracting huge profits.

In this regard, the head of the White House promised that he would soon seriously increase the duties levied on Indian goods supplied to the United States market.
