Szijjarto: EC uses financing to blackmail countries that disagree with it

The European Commission uses the financing to put pressure on countries that disagree with Brussels’ policies, including Hungary, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said.

“The European Commission is playing dirty — they usually attach so-called “conditionalities” to payments, which gives them the opportunity to impose financial sanctions against countries or governments that they do not like politically. This is what is happening with Hungary now,” Szijjarto said.

The minister added that Hungary is under “financial sanctions” for Budapest’s pursuing a patriotic, conservative policy based on national interests.

“The pressure from Brussels began immediately after we came to power in 2010. Then it became clear: We are not part of the liberal mainstream. We are not acting in the interests of Brussels, but in the interests of our nation, our country,” the minister said.
