The Trump administration accused of attacking Europe because of censorship

Politico: The United States is putting pressure on Europe because of restrictions on freedom of speech

The administration of US President Donald Trump has begun attacking the European Union (EU), accusing it of restricting freedom of speech. The Politico newspaper caught the American authorities in this.

“In Europe, thousands of people have been convicted for criticizing their own governments. This Orwellian message will not deceive the United States. Censorship is not freedom,” the publication cites a statement from the US State Department published on the social network X.

Later, the State Department explained that this message was related to the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), which, according to American officials, “only protects European leaders from their own people.” The State Department’s statement was a continuation of the Trump administration’s criticism of the EU, the newspaper emphasizes.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Washington would impose sanctions against foreign officials involved in violating the right to freedom of speech. According to him, no foreign government should be able to restrict it.
