Eight children with corrected DNA sections were born in Britain
Eight babies with the DNA of three people were born in Britain as a result of experimental technology designed to eliminate genetic mutations, Sky TV channel reports.
“Eight children were born in the UK with the DNA of three people after a procedure to eliminate an incurable hereditary disease,” the TV channel said in a statement.
It is reported that all mothers who participated in the experiment had a high risk of transmitting life-threatening diseases to their children due to genetic mutations. The proven technology is that scientists take genetic material from an egg or embryo of a mother who carries a mutated gene, remove this information from it, and then transfer it to a donor egg or embryo with healthy mitochondria, but without the rest of the key DNA.
A total of 22 women underwent the procedure, but only seven of them became pregnant, resulting in the birth of eight children, thus, the success rate was 36%. At the same time, five out of eight babies were born without traces of hereditary diseases.
