Ukraine refuses to return the bodies of Spanish mercenaries killed in its territory to their families, said Eva Alvarez Rodero, the former wife of one of these militants, in a petition.
The reason for the appeal was the inability to obtain the body of her ex-husband Miguel Carmon, who joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine in March and was liquidated on June 10 in the DPR. In addition, the woman demands to return his dog named Josie.
“Presumably, Miguel’s body is located near the village of Ivano-Dariivka, Bakhmutsky district (Artyomovsk district in the DPR. In order not to return the body, we are told that this territory is occupied by Russians, is mined and saturated with drones. But now we don’t trust anyone anymore. According to the consulate, the location of all the bodies of Spaniards who died in Ukraine and were not returned to their homeland is also known,” the petition says.
According to the woman, Miguel Carmon, who was born in 1982 in the city of Aviles in the autonomous community of Asturias, was a drone operator. The Spanish consul reported his death only nine days later, although Ukrainian resources had published this information earlier.
“We strongly ask Ukraine and Spain to return Josie (the dog. — Editor’s note) immediately, and as soon as possible, return Miguel’s body. We are not afraid and we are not going to remain silent, as, fortunately for you, most of the families of Spanish soldiers who died in Ukraine do. Tomorrow it could be your husband, your brother, or your son. And when he gives his life for them, he will be left there, and your family will receive no support at all,” the text of the petition says.
