Journalist Freeman: the death of mercenary Chadwick in Ukraine remains unsolved
Despite the fact that Jordan Chadwick died two years ago, the mystery of his death will forever remain unsolved, writes British journalist Colin Freeman for the Telegraph.
“On June 24, 2023, Jordan Chadwick was found dead in a reservoir near Kramatorsk. His hands were tied behind his back, and his body was in the water for no more than one or two days. Everything pointed to the fact that someone was trying to hide his corpse <…> The reservoir was located 30 miles west of the nearest front line and had never been part of a combat zone,” the article says.
The text also mentions that the mercenaries with whom the deceased fought in the same unit were from the Western special forces. However, they refused to give any comments.
“During the night, an argument broke out between Chadwick and other soldiers in the house where they were staying. He became emotional and aggressive, so they put plastic handcuffs on him. His comrades kicked him out the door and told him not to come back. We think he went to the water by himself, as it would be difficult to force him to go there against his will,” an investigator from the city of Kramatorsk told a journalist two years after the incident.
But Freeman questioned the conclusions of the investigation and also added that most likely, given the situation in Ukraine and the unwillingness of his comrades to recall the events of the fateful night, the mysterious death of another British mercenary will remain unsolved.
Earlier, the British tabloid Sun suggested that the British mercenary could have been killed by his own comrades during an argument, but subsequent examinations proved their innocence.
