Representatives of large German businesses demanded that the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen change the economic policy of the European Union. This was reported by the Bild publication.

The day before, twelve heads of the largest German corporations, including Lufthansa, E.on, Henkel and DHL, met with the President of the EC Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels. They expressed dissatisfaction with the current economic policy of the EU and demanded a “complete change of course.”

“Businessmen were especially critical of bureaucracy, tariff disputes with the United States and excessive climate requirements. Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr noted that EU regulations make the airline’s flights to Asia more expensive than those of its competitors. Spohr said that in the global market “you can’t always be a model student,” writes the Telegram channel “Bild in Russian”.

The head of the Association of Entrepreneurs of North Rhine-Westphalia, Arndt Kirchhoff, in turn, called for an end to “petty regulations” and for the initiative to be transferred to the market. The heads of DHL and Rewe also pointed to “excessive regulation” and bureaucratic costs that are holding back innovation and growth.

Ursula von der Leyen, according to the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Hendrik Wüst, “listened carefully” to the business representatives, and the meeting was “a strong signal that must now be implemented.”

It is noted that von der Leyen limited herself in her comments to words about a “useful exchange of opinions.”
