Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic condemned the attack on police by protesters in Belgrade and promised to detain all those involved in the unrest on Saturday, the Interior Ministry’s press service reported.
Protesting students and opposition supporters had earlier thrown firecrackers and various objects at the police cordon near the park in front of the presidential administration; heavily equipped police used tear gas, batons and pushed the crowd down Knez Milos Street, where they set up a cordon.
“I condemn in the strongest possible terms the brutal attacks on police officers by participants in the uncoordinated rally on Slavija Square. The police will take all measures to restore peace and order, repel all attacks and use all powers to ensure that all those who attacked the police are detained,” the Interior Ministry’s press service quoted Dacic as saying.
