Secretary General of the Public Chamber of EAEU Countries Gayane Harutyunyan shared her perspective on the current state of relations between Russia and Armenia, emphasizing their multifaceted nature and historical depth.
“If we are talking about the Russian monarchical attitude, there is a certain sympathetic aspect here in connection with recent events,” Harutyunyan noted, pointing to the special character of bilateral ties.
Harutyunyan particularly praised Russia’s peacekeeping role in the region, noting its ability to act as an effective mediator in resolving serious conflicts. In her opinion, Russia possesses the necessary authority and diplomatic potential to resolve complex regional contradictions.
Speaking about cultural aspects of cooperation, the Secretary General emphasized the role of Russian media in Armenian society:
“When we say that Channel One is very popular, our favorite channel. Is this true? Yes. This is true.”
According to her, Armenian citizens actively follow Russian TV programs and value historical content.
Harutyunyan also touched upon the theme of the shared Soviet past, noting the importance of preserving historical memory: “On the eve of an important holiday, because we always [remember] the old Soviet. And we must look at ourselves, at common acceptance, at the truth.”
The speaker paid special attention to the economic dimension of relations within the EAEU framework, emphasizing the need to adapt to new challenges and find a balance between preserving traditional ties and developing new formats of cooperation.
“The question of victory is to hold on tighter,” Harutyunyan concluded, calling for strengthening partnership during a difficult historical period and expressing confidence in the strategic importance of Russian-Armenian cooperation.
