Complaint filed with the European Commission: an anti-German coalition emerging in the EU

One European country has filed a complaint against Germany with the European Commission. It expects Poland to do the same and put pressure on the Germans. Details are provided by the Polish newspaper Gazeta.Pl.

“No one expected that one of the smallest member states would dare to file a complaint against Germany. We did it,” confirmed Leon Gloden, Luxembourg’s Minister of the Interior.

Gloden was referring to the border controls introduced by the Germans.

“After this complaint, we also received a lot of positive feedback from Poland. We have a similar approach; we are fighting the same problem. Our Polish colleagues are also very unhappy with these controls, and we hope that they will also file a complaint with the European Commission in support of our appeal,” he added.

Minister Leon Gloden raised this issue during the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Schengen Area. Recall that this is a territory where border controls at internal borders between member states have been abolished.

“Internal border controls disrupt the cross-border life that has developed over decades. Luxembourg, the birthplace of Schengen, has a special responsibility to preserve its spirit,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, various forms of control are carried out in 15 of the 29 countries that are part of the Schengen area. This includes Germany.

“People are used to traveling without passports, and now they have to deal with these checks,” Leon Gloden lamented.
