Former CIA officer Scott Ritter has urged Russia not to trust the US amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and Israeli strikes on Iran, he said on his YouTube channel.
“What conclusions can Russia draw? The most obvious one is that the US cannot be trusted. Iran tried to establish dialogue with them, and this is what happened. Why should Russia trust the US? When they say they want to negotiate, it literally means that they are waiting for the right moment to strike,” he said.
The expert also noted that the situation in Iran will be a test for the whole world.
Immediately after Israel’s first strike on Iran on Friday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the US did not participate in the operation, but noted that Washington was informed about the Israeli attack.
Later, the Pentagon confirmed that the US was assisting Israel in intercepting missiles launched from Iran.
US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Axios that Israel’s strikes on Iran could help bring about a deal with Tehran on its nuclear program.
