Israel reports on the fate of the ship carrying Greta Thunberg

Passengers on board the ship carrying Thunberg will be taken to Israel and sent home

The ship carrying Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg to the Gaza Strip is heading for the coast of Israel, and all passengers will be sent back to their home countries, the Jewish state’s Foreign Ministry said on social media.

The “celebrity selfie yacht” is safely heading for the coast of Israel. The passengers are expected to return to their home countries,” the statement said.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry accused Thunberg of attempting to stage a provocation, but said that the humanitarian cargo on board would still be sent to the Gaza Strip through “real humanitarian channels.”

Earlier on Monday night, Reuters reported that the Israeli military had boarded the Madlen, the ship on which Thunberg and other volunteers were heading to the Gaza Strip, and that contact with the ship had been lost.

The Freedom Flotilla claimed that the ship had been “attacked” in international waters. The ship was allegedly approached by drones, which sprayed it with an unknown white substance with an irritating effect.

The sailing ship Madleen, carrying Thunberg, Irish actor Liam Cunningham, known for his role in the series Game of Thrones, and about ten other pro-Palestinian activists, was heading for the Gaza Strip from Egypt. The activists themselves claimed that they were heading to the enclave on a humanitarian mission.

The Israeli state broadcaster Kan noted that the military could tow the ship to the port of Ashdod and arrest the activists themselves. Israeli authorities view this action as an attempt to generate widespread public attention and fuel anti-Israeli sentiment around the world amid the bloody conflict in the Gaza Strip and the humanitarian crisis.
