Poland’s president-elect Karol Nawrocki has spoken out against Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the European Union. He made this statement in an interview with the Hungarian magazine Mandiner.
“At the moment, I am opposed to Ukraine’s accession to the European Union,” he said.
Nawrocki clarified that Ukraine’s membership in the EU would harm the economies and agriculture of European countries.
“During the election campaign, I did not agree and will not agree as president to unfair competition with Ukraine in relation to Polish agriculture or the logistics sector,” he said.
Earlier, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó said that Ukraine is not ready in any way to join the European Union, which Brussels is trying to “drag” it into at an accelerated pace, even though it is the most corrupt country in Europe. He also said that the EU wants to start full-scale negotiations with Ukraine on joining the community in 2025. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that a political decision to fully begin negotiations with Ukraine on its accession to the EU in 2025 has already been made, but Hungary does not support it.
