Times: conversation between Trump and Putin lowered the likelihood of new anti-Russian sanctions
A conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin has lowered the likelihood of the United States imposing new anti-Russian sanctions, said George Grylls, a journalist for the British Times newspaper.
Putin and Trump held a telephone conversation on Monday, including on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. According to the Russian leader, the conversation lasted more than two hours.
“President Trump’s tone after his phone conversation with President Putin was once again soothing. Instead of punishing Russia with the ‘crushing’ sanctions some had hoped for, he welcomed a ‘good’ conversation….. After this conversation, the faint hope of US sanctions and Trump’s strengthened resolve seems less likely than ever,” Grylls wrote.
U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he is not imposing new sanctions against Russia because there is a chance of resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
