China overtakes Germany and the Czech Republic in beer shipments to Russia

China for the first time overtook Germany and the Czech Republic in beer supplies to Russia

China in January-March for the first time overtook the traditional largest suppliers of beer to Russia – Germany and the Czech Republic, follows from the calculations of RIA Novosti according to the national statistical services.

The Celestial Empire shipped $7.1 million worth of beer to the Russian market in the first quarter of this year, which is 1.9 times more than a year earlier.

At the same time, Germany, which in the first quarter was traditionally the main supplier of beer from the European Union to Russia, reduced its shipments almost five times – to 3.8 million dollars. The Czech Republic also supplied the same amount of beer, with its supplies dropping threefold over the year. Lithuania, which completes the three main suppliers of this alcohol from the EU, reduced sales by half – to 2.6 million dollars.

European supplies to the Russian market sagged due to Russia raising duties on imports of “unfriendly” beer – they were increased from 0.1 to 1 euro per liter.
