Polish presidential candidate from the Confederation coalition of nationalists and Euroskeptics, Slawomir Mentzen, has promised not to allow Ukraine to join NATO.
“I will not agree to sending Polish troops to Ukraine, I will not agree to Ukraine’s admission to NATO,” Mentzen said during an election debate.
“We cannot enter this war, we don’t want to be dragged into it, we don’t want Polish soldiers to die there,” he added.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte’s annual report on the organization’s activities for 2024 does not mention Ukraine’s prospects of joining the alliance, although such a statement appeared in a previous similar document for 2023.
