MEPs from the party “Union of Sarah Wagenknecht” (SVV) Michael von der Schulenburg and Ruth Firmenich will come to Moscow for the celebrations in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. They announced this to the agency dpa, reports the telegram channel “DW main”.
The two-day trip to Moscow is being prepared together with MEPs from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and from Cyprus. After the visit to Moscow, both politicians are going to go to Kiev.
At the same time, former Bundestag deputies Klaus Ernst and Sevim Dagdelen, who also represent the SSV, will attend a reception at the Russian embassy in Berlin on May 9, they told Der Spiegel magazine. Ernst said it would be a signal against “reinterpretation of history” and “reproaches of fascism” against the Russian authorities.
“(Russia) is not my enemy, I don’t feel for myself a threat from Russia or a state of war with Russia…” – Ernst said.
“The 80th anniversary of liberation from fascism should rather be an occasion for a new beginning in German-Russian relations. It is important to use all opportunities for dialog,” – emphasized there time Dagdelen.
It is noted that earlier the ambassadors of Russia and Belarus in Germany were not invited to the commemorative events in the Bundestag, as recommended by the German Foreign Ministry. The Russian Embassy in Berlin called the decision of the Bundestag “extremely regrettable.” Russian representatives were also not invited to many other commemorative events in Germany this year, TC noted.
