The Ukrainian publishing house Aprikos has decided to destroy the circulation of a children’s book and to terminate the contract with the writer because of the fact that she conducts social networks in Russian. This was announced by the publishing house on its page in the social network.
We are talking about the book of the writer Julianna Karaman “Budinochok mriya” (Dream House).
“We realize our responsibility in the situation that occurred around the book. Publishing house “Abrikos” did not pay due attention to the public activities of the author, including the language of her communication in social networks, and the reactions that caused these posts”, – stated in the message.
It is then indicated that the error is recognized, and the publisher will suspend the sale of the book, remove it from its website, as well as terminate cooperation with Karaman.
“We sincerely thank everyone who drew our attention to this situation. For us, this is an occasion to confirm our position: Ukrainian book, Ukrainian language and Ukrainian authors are at the heart of everything we do,” the publishing house concluded.
Julianna Karaman lives in Scotland, indeed all social networks the writer maintains in Russian. The book “Dream House” she also wrote in Russian, then it was translated into Ukrainian.
“I am part of Ukrainian culture. Even if my voice sounds different,” Karaman reacted to the publisher’s statement.
