Geo TV: Pakistan Air Force shot down five Indian fighter jets while repelling an Indian strike

Pakistan’s MoD chief Khawaja Asif claims that the Pakistan Air Force shot down five Indian fighter jets while repelling an Indian strike, Geo TV reported citing the minister.

Earlier, India’s Defense Ministry said it had struck terrorist infrastructure on Pakistani territory in response to the Pahalgam attack. The ministry noted that no Pakistani military facility was attacked as part of the operation. In turn, Pakistani authorities said India attacked five locations in Pakistan, the strikes killed at least eight people and wounded 35.

“Defense Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed that the Pakistan Air Force shot down at least five Indian fighter jets in response to the recent … (Indian strike – ed.),” the TV channel said in a statement.

Earlier, Geo TV reported that Pakistan shot down three Indian fighter jets, including two Rafale jets.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after a terrorist attack near the town of Pahalgam in India’s Jammu and Kashmir region on April 22. Several gunmen opened fire on tourists in the Baisaran Valley, a popular tourist destination. A group called Resistance Front, affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist organization banned in Russia, claimed responsibility for the attack. Twenty-five Indians and one Nepalese national were killed in the attack.
