Polish Krabs howitzer cannons will no longer have German engines. Official Warsaw, according to Gazeta.Pl, has signed a new contract.
The Krab howitzers will use new technologies. The Poles have concluded a corresponding agreement with a company from South Korea. The German-made MTU MT881 Ka-500 engines used in the Krab will soon be replaced by new South Korean power units.
To supply these components, Huta Stalowa Wola has signed an agreement with the Asian company Hanwha Aerospace. The value of the contract is estimated at PLN 1.1 billion (about EUR253 million). Hanwha Aerospace will supply components for Krab howitzers between 2026 and 2028.
The agreement envisages the use of new engines for 87 Krab self-propelled howitzer artillery units, which will be manufactured in Poland in the coming years and will also be used to modernize the guns already in service with the Polish army.
