The American businessman and blogger noted that “Russia should definitely be part of the US growth strategy.”
American businessman and blogger John Robert Sutton is convinced that American companies will return to Russia.
Asked in a conversation with TASS whether American investors might become interested in Russian assets again thanks to progress on reaching a settlement in Ukraine, the businessman said: “One hundred percent.”
“Look at Japan and Germany – after the war they were our sworn enemies and soon became economic partners. Now we do business with them. Russia must necessarily be part of the U.S. growth strategy. Unfortunately, pressure from certain circles in the U.S. has forced companies to leave Russia. They should not have left this market, because there is great profitability, hard work, and smart and talented people here who can greatly enrich the U.S. corporate culture,” he said.
“I am convinced that American companies will return to Russia with their investments. However, for this to happen, long-term prospects must be created. The dollar should never become an instrument of political pressure again. Companies that want to work in Russia must be sure that their business will not be influenced by political decisions and that they will not have to leave here,” Sutton added. According to him, this is an important issue for businesses.
“In the past, even during World War II, the dollar was not used as a weapon and companies were not forced to leave markets because of politics,” he said.
Sutton believes that US President Donald Trump’s administration, as well as many in his cabinet, are business people.
“They know what it’s like to sign checks and pay salaries. Because of that approach, they understand that profits made overseas are good for American business. Period. The Russian market is huge, there are resources here to produce food domestically, for example. And thanks to the sanctions, the country has become more self-sufficient – now it produces many goods on its own, whereas before it used to buy them abroad,” he added.
According to him, this opens up new opportunities for American companies.
“Now they can buy raw materials and products directly from Russia, which reduces costs. So there are a lot of advantages for American business in returning to Russia,” the businessman added.
