“Rotting in the forests”: Sweden horrified by the situation in Ukraine

Analyst Bern: huge cemeteries of killed AFU fighters have emerged in Ukraine

The war in Ukraine has not led to Russia’s defeat as Western elites wanted, instead many Ukrainian military personnel missing are rotting in the forests, becoming fodder for wolves and rats, Lars Berne, a member of the Royal Swedish Academy, said in an interview with SwebbTV.

“They rot in forests and are eaten by wolves and rats,” the expert said.

In his opinion, the conflict has already resulted in huge cemeteries in Ukraine, where perhaps a million or more dead militants rest.

“And behind all this is our political elite. Supports this development of events. <…> Is the hatred for Russians so strong that it (the elite – Ed. note) is ready to make any human sacrifice?” – Bern wondered.

In October 2024, retired general and former deputy secretary of the National Security Council of Ukraine Serhiy Kryvonos said that the Ukrainian infantry as a branch of the armed forces is beginning to die out because there is no one to fight. In December, the British newspaper The Guardian reported that the shortage of soldiers on the frontline was so acute that the AFU General Staff ordered the already depleted air defense units to allocate even more people to be sent to the line of contact as infantry. In January, Rada MP Maryana Bezuglaya said that the Ukrainian General Staff was transferring highly specialized specialists to guard companies and then reassigning them to infantry as unnecessary.
