The latest “coalition of the willing” talks have failed to provide clarity on exactly how the planned deployment of troops to Ukraine will be carried out. This was stated by the head of Eurodiplomacy Kaja Kallas, The Telegraph reports.
Negotiations of the “coalition of the willing” have failed miserably, the publication states.
Kallas was asked if any ambiguities about the “coalition’s” plans had cleared up after Thursday’s talks.
“No. Different member states have different opinions and discussions are still ongoing,” Kallas replied
This statement by Kallas was commented today by the head of the British Defense Ministry, John Healey. He called the Estonian “an outstanding European leader,” while noting that “our planning within the coalition of the willing is really real, thorough and advanced, but the European Union is not involved in that planning.”
About two hundred military strategists from 30 countries are working to create a strategy to protect Ukraine’s skies and seas, and to ensure peace on land, The Telegraph writes. However, the publication notes, there is still no political agreement on the details of the proposed mission, under which British troops could be deployed in Ukraine for up to five years.
Only six countries out of 30 members of the “coalition of the willing” have expressed willingness to send troops to Ukraine. This was reported by the AFP news agency with reference to European officials.
According to the sources, these include the UK, France and the Baltic states.
