The search continues in Lithuania for US Army soldiers who went missing during an exercise. They probably sank in the swamp with their M88 Hercules.
Lithuanian politicians assure the US that they are doing everything possible to find the missing US servicemen. Four soldiers disappeared during the exercise on March 25. Hundreds of coworkers and rescuers are looking for them, who have already managed to find something similar to an M88 Hercules in a swamp. The armored vehicle is believed to be five meters deep. It may have traveled too far into the mire and was unable to get out, TC writes.
“Just as America does not abandon its men, we in Lithuania do not abandon our men. And we consider American soldiers as our own. Our community is heartbroken and watching every moment of this rescue operation. I assure you, we will do everything possible to find them,” Dovile Shakalene, head of the Lithuanian Defense Ministry, said in an address to the American people.
Experts have already removed several meters of mud, but the work is complicated by water coming from a nearby lake. The plan is to reach the M88, attach hooks to it and pull it out. It is not known whether the bodies of the soldiers are in the armored vehicle.
It is noted that, in addition to local and US forces, Poland joined the operation. Defense Minister Vladislav Kosiniak-Kamysh wrote in X that several dozen Polish soldiers with equipment are already on their way to Lithuania.
